Designer Coffee
Designing my own coffee.
If you know me, you know i love coffee. Not just drinking coffee but the entire experience. My daily routine, making coffee with my Breville Barista Express, takes me a good 10–15 minutes and it has become much less about making coffee and much more of a daily meditation.
i also own a Hario V60 setup for pour over, an OXO Brew Compact Cold Brewer for, well, for cold brew, and a Moka Express in which i attempt to make authentic café Cubanos. i grind all my beans using the Baratza Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. And for weighing purposes, i use a TIMEMORE 2022 with a built-in timer.
To create a high-quality coffee that aligns with my vision of building a business of the highest quality, i worked with the team at Carico Global to source only the finest quality coffee available in the world. But even that wasn't good enough. i wanted to make sure the coffee we purchased also had an immensely positive impact on the communities where the beans are grown, and Carico Global is the only coffee importer i could find that aligned with my goals, values, and mission to have a positive impact on the world.
Statistical Significance Roast
The Statistical Significance Roast is a Ugandan single-origin arabica coffee, created using only the finest coffee beans sourced within a strict, organic-certified supply chain. Great measures are taken to purchase, at a fair price, coffee beans from small-scale farmers across Uganda who have a commitment to preserve their soil and to practice sustainable harvesting and processing practices.
- Origin: Uganda
- Bean: Peaberry
- Roast: Medium
- Roaster: Tyler Kalisiak, Owner and Operator of Guiltless Food Co, located in Temecula, California
Why Peaberry?
Much like you, and confirmed by the fact that you have found this page, the peaberry is an anomaly. Usually, coffee cherries contain two seeds, or beans, flat on one side and rounded on the other. In the case of peaberries, only one seed is fertilized. Peaberries are known to produce a cup with rich chocolate flavor and delicate hints of dark fruits such as blackcurrant and plum, with an incredibly sweet and smooth finish.
Data Correlation Roast
The Data Correlation Roast is a Ugandan single-origin arabica coffee from the Bugisu region, sourced through the same organic-certified supply chain as the Statistical Significance Roast. A dark roast profile, built for people who want a fuller, bolder cup without losing the character of the bean underneath.
- Origin: Uganda
- Bean: AAA
- Roast: Dark
- Roaster: Kip Rolfe, Owner and CEO of Coast 2 Coast Coffee Roasters, located in Los Angeles, California
Why Ugandan Bugisu?
Bugisu is home to almost 20% of the world's coffee farmers. Uganda's coffee is prized for its taste and versatility, which means it ends up as an ingredient for some of the world's most known coffee blends. Only now is it being put to the forefront globally as single origin. Carico's coffees are grown under the shade of indigenous trees, allowing the coffee fruit to grow and ripen slowly. The result is a harder bean that is then hand-picked when optimally ripe and processed at a cooperative using a more delicate process known as wet-processing, regularly turned as it dries in the sun.
